Ten Friday night Matches at Etihad Stadium

The opening bounce of the AFL Premiership season occurs at Etihad Stadium on Friday, March 14 when home team Collingwood plays last year’s runners up, Fremantle.

The opening round, to be played over two weekends, consists of four matches at Etihad Stadium.

There will again be a total of 48 ‘home and away’ played at the venue, which was the same number as 2013, with ten of the 2014 games to be played on Friday nights. Last season the venue hosted eight Friday night matches.

Etihad Stadium will also host the first three Friday night matches of the season, with potentially a Round 2 blockbuster occurring between Essendon and last year’s premiers, Hawthorn.
An additional highlight will be Indigenous Round, which commences with a Nicky Winmar Tribute game, featuring Collingwood and St Kilda, on Friday, May 30.

Additional ‘home and away’ highlights include two clashes between Carlton and Geelong in Rounds 12 and 21. Essendon’s first match of the season – an away game against North Melbourne – should see Dustin Fletcher break the club games’ record.

The venue will host two Sunday 7.40pm matches – the first occurring between Carlton and Port Adelaide in Round 1. The other occurs when North Melbourne meets Richmond in Round 12.
